How Wordlers was made...

In the past I wrote most of my games using Visual Basic and did most of the graphics and sound effects myself (or used freeware/public domain) resources. Wordlers was different. With a great concept for a word game, I wanted graphics and background music that would do it justice. So here is how it was made....

Programming:

  • GameMaker v6.0 was used to create the game. The author of GameMaker, Mark Overmars writes the following about the Gamemaker program:
Game Maker is a program that allows you to make exciting computer games, without the need to write a single line of code. Making games with Game Maker is a lot of fun. Using easy to learn drag-and-drop actions, you can create professional looking games within very little time.

You can make games with backgrounds, animated graphics, music and sound effects, and even 3d games! And when you've become more experienced, there is a built-in programming language, which gives you the full flexibility of creating games with Game Maker.

However, I can tell you, that Wordlers made very extensive use of that built-in programming language.

Graphics:

  • The Puzzle Board, both the objects and the floor tiles, were created by Jeff McArthur. He is one of the founding members of BlueGillFlame, a small independent gaming studio located in Guatemala.

  • The Backgrounds, including the entire Splash Screen, were created by Martin Naydenski. I contacted Martin through Guru.com (an online service helping people with jobs get together with people looking for work).

  • Some useful text logos (such as the headings on the Puzzle Load screen) were made using the CoolText website ... a great place to make some text logos for your games or websites. Check it out.

Music:

  • The background music tracks were created by Keith Spillman. If you have need for a little music for your website or game, check out The Little Kitchen.

Levels:

  • Writing endless levels is always a bit of a chore. Thanks to Dr. Amy Galitzer, Leroy Enochs and Sheldon Winkel  for their help in writing levels.

Marketing:

  • Wordlers is available through the RegNow affiliate program with a 40% comission. If you have a website and would like to earn money simply by having links to our website and to a trial download of Wordlers (RegNow hosts it, you don't have to host it yourself), click here for details about joining the Wordlers affiliate program.
